Ms Shaista Sohail, Economic Counsellor
Ms Shaista Sohail deals with Services and Development areas. She has been working in the Mission since July 2004. Her last assignment was in the WTO Wing of the Ministry of Commerce, Islamabad where she dealt with NAMA, Trade remedy laws and Development.
She has worked in Islamabad and earlier in Karachi. Her assignments ranged from judicial work, mobilization and dispatch of relief for Afghan refugees to gender sensitization, promotion of tourism, dispute settlement in old land acquisition cases and negotiating vacation of occupied government land in the Federal Capital. Shaista also lectured in government and non government fora on land and WTO related issues. During her stay in Geneva she has been participating as a resource person in workshops/Seminars organized by the International Trade Centre, UNCTAD, South Centre, ITCSD, International Association for the study of Insurance Economics and the Quaker United Nations.
She did her Masters in Economics, from the Punjab University, Lahore and served as a Lecturer in Economics. Later she was selected in the Federal Civil Service in the District Management Group. She inter alia received specialized trade related training in UNESCAP/WTO trade policy course in Bangkok and the Specialized Trade negotiations course in Geneva.
